MAASTRO is an independent academic radiation oncology institute that provides radiotherapy treatment (incl. proton therapy) to cancer patients in the South-East of the Netherlands. The proton therapy facility is fully integrated in MAASTRO and serves the south-eastern part of The Netherlands (region of about 5.5 million people). MAASTRO treats over 4500 new patients per year (5800 treatments), has a revenue of 33 million euros and employs 250 FTE (2018). Treatments are carried out at a principal establishment in Maastricht and at a satellite in Venlo. Over 200 patients per year are treated with radiotherapy for lung tumors, including stereotactic treatments.
MAASTRO has one of the biggest radiation oncology labs in the Netherlands, covering topics from fundamental molecular biology, to translational research for biomarkers and autophagy inhibition. The mission of MAASTRO is to provide cancer treatment with the greatest chance of cure and/or with the least possible physical and mental side effects. Therefore both other medical specialists and patients are actively involved in decision-making on treatment. In addition, the institute is closely linked to the University Maastricht and University Medical Centre (MUMC+). In STOPSTORM there will be a collaboration between MAASTRO and MUMC+ to provide STAR treatment, pre-treatment and follow-up imaging.

Prof. Dr. Dirk De Ruysscher
Prof. Dr. Dirk De Ruysscher is Radiation Oncologist and Professor of Radiation Oncology/Respiratory Oncology at Maastricht University Medical Center, Department of Radiation Oncology (Maastro). He chairs the Division of Clinical Research. In STOPSTORM, he is working in WP4 on motion mitigation.
Dr. ir. Wouter van Elmpt
Dr. ir. Wouter van Elmpt Physicist, is Assistant Professor at the University of Maastricht and program manager of the physics innovation team at the Department of Radiation Oncology of Maastro. He will be involved in image registration and radiotherapy delivery.
Dr. Colien Hazelaar
Dr. Colien Hazelaar Technical Physician, Innovation Physicist at Maastro, will be involved in motion management and radiotherapy delivery.
Dr. ir. Raoul Stevens
Dr. ir. Raoul Stevens Medical Engineer, Researcher at Maastro, will be involved in respiratory and cardiac motion management techniques.
