Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin is one of the largest university hospitals in Europe and internationally renowned for its excellence in teaching and training. Charité extends over four campuses and has close to 100 different Departments and Institutes, where 14,576 staff are employed.
Department of Cardiology (Campus Virchow Klinikum) works in close cooperation with the German Heart Center Berlin, diagnosing and treating many local and supraregional patients with various rhythm disturbances. This includes the complete spectrum of non-invasive and invasive techniques for myocardial, coronary, and electrophysiological diagnostics and interventions. Together the institutes have five dedicated electrophysiology catheter laboratories at their demand and treat more then 450/150 patients with supraventricular/ventricular rhythm disturbances annually. The main task of the Department of Cardiology in STOPSTORM the recruitment and treatment of patients with ventricular arrhythmias for STAR treatment.
The Department for Radiation Oncology is present at two locations in Berlin, with a main location at Campus Virchow-Klinikum. Per year, a total number of >1300 patients are treated at the department. There is a large expertise of stereotactic radiation therapy with more than 300 intracranial radiosurgical treatments annually and more than 250 stereotactic body radiotherapy treatments annually.
In STOPSTORM the department is responsible for radiosurgical treatment of the patients assigned from the cardiology partner (evaluation inclusion/exclusion criteria, coordination of anatomical imaging procedures for treatment planning, contrast-enhanced 4D-planning CT, stereotactic body radiosurgery treatment planning, quality assessment and accomplishment of SBRT-treatment regarding image guidance aspects).
